Supporting WBMS: How To Donate

fundraising-working-togetherWhite Bear Montessori is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) parent- and staff-operated private school. The school is administered by an elected Board of Directors. The school strives to provide a quality Montessori experience, utilizing the Montessori philosophy of education. Each family is an important part of the White Bear Montessori community. Participation in the running of the school enriches us all, creating a learning community of students, parents, and guides. Family involvement is required as part of the enrollment agreement as a way to encourage community ties as well as to maintain low tuition. Families, friends, and alumni can contribute in many different ways, all of which are valued and appreciated.

Annual Fund Drive

The Annual Fund Drive is the first of two major fundraising events of the year and generally occurs in the Fall. Proceeds from the Fund Drive are applied to the school's operating costs. Contributions to the Fund Drive are tax-deductible, offering the school a method for keeping tuition low and offering parents the opportunity to deduct their contribution, which would otherwise be paid in higher (non-tax-deductible) tuition. Each family is expected to participate in an amount appropriate for them, and this expectation is part of the enrollment agreement.

Auction

The Annual Auction is the second of two major fundraising events of the year and generally occurs in the Spring. Proceeds from the Auction are applied both to the school's operating costs and to special projects, such as playground improvements or painting. Many contributions to the Auction are tax-deductible. The Auction is a fun, social event that allows parents to visit with one another and take advantage of wonderful auction items, all while benefiting the school. Each family is expected to participate in the Auction, and this expectation is part of the enrollment agreement.

Volunteer Opportunities

Many opportunities for volunteering occur throughout the year, from short-term projects, like weeding the gardens or painting a table, to longer-term commitments, such as coaching soccer or participating on the Board of Directors. A questionnaire regarding each parent's skills and volunteering interests is included in the enrollment packet. Please contact the office at info@wbms.org if you would like more information.

Box Tops

WBMS participates in the General Mills Box Tops for Education program. Families can clip and bring in the Box Tops coupons from hundreds of products such as Cheerios, Ziploc, Kleenex, and others. The school can redeem the Box Tops coupons for cash.

Target's Take Charge of Education Program

Donations can be made to WBMS through Target's Take Charge of Education Program. Those who have a Target REDcard can sign up for the Take Charge of Education program and designate WBMS as their school of choice. Target will then donate up to 1% of your REDcard purchases to WBMS. For more details, see the Target website or ask a Target cashier for details.

Classroom Donations

Each Guide maintains a classroom "wish list" which is updated on each class page of the website regularly. Examples of such requests include supplies for classroom pets and materials for special projects. These donations are always appreciated and are a way to directly contribute to the classroom.
