In the Montessori Method of education, children are given the opportunity to work in an environment prepared specifically for them using materials purposefully designed to meet their development needs and to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration.

Children are free to choose work that the Guide has presented to them from the areas of practical life, sensorial, mathematics, and language, which encompasses the areas of culture, art, music, geography, and so on.  It is a social environment in which children learn to cooperate, share, and help others.

The Children’s House community is comprised of children of mixed ages. Children between the ages of two-and-a-half to six-and-a-half all share the same environment, and each child has the same Guide for three to four years.  In the mixed-age setting, the children learn from one another.  Younger children get a preview of future work by watching the older children.  Older children reinforce their knowledge by sharing it with younger children. All the children learn to work with others of different ages and abilities, to respect each other’s work and work space, and to treat each other with courtesy.
