Kindergarten in the Children's House (5 - 6 years)

Kindergarten is the capstone year in the Children's House where everything comes together in an explosion of learning and excitement.

In Montessori, kindergarten children are given the opportunity to work in an environment prepared specifically for them using materials purposefully designed to meet their development needs and to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration.

Children are free to choose work that the Guide has presented to them from the areas of practical life, sensorial, mathematics, and language, which encompasses the areas of culture, art, music, geography, and so on. It is a social environment in which children learn to cooperate, share, and help others.

The Children’s House community is comprised of children of mixed ages. Children between the ages of two-and-a-half to six-and-a-half all share the same environment, and each child has the same Guide for three to four years. In the mixed-age setting, the children learn from one another. Younger children get a preview of future work by watching the older children. Older children reinforce their knowledge by sharing it with younger children. All the children learn to work with others of different ages and abilities, to respect each other’s work and work space, and to treat each other with courtesy.

quotesI became such a believer in the Montessori education principles and the environment my daughter was being nurtured in that I committed to their all-day Kindergarten, and now their 1st grade elementary program. The true enjoyment and dedication I view from the guides (teachers) and staff at WBMS correlates to the great learning environment my child brings home continuously. Don't look for a daycare... look for White Bear Montessori School for your pre-K child.
